What Happens at Your First Personal Training Session?

New client sitting down with a trainer for a first session consultation

Your first session at FlexWerk runs in four parts: a goals conversation, a free InBody body-composition scan, a guided movement assessment, and a first real workout scaled to what the assessment found, all behind the door of a private suite with a coach matched to you. There is no test to pass and no performance to deliver. Every minute exists to calibrate a program to the body and life you actually have, and knowing the sequence in advance removes most of the nerves people bring to it.

Before you arrive

The process starts with the free consultation: a short conversation about goals, schedule, and history, plus the health questionnaire every good operation uses. This is also where FlexConnect matching happens, pairing you with a coach chosen for your goals, availability, and personality rather than whoever happens to be free. Wardrobe anxiety is common and unnecessary; what to wear to a first session is a two-minute read, and the short answer is clothes you can move in. It also helps to skim the questions a trainer will ask, because candid answers are the raw material of a good program.

One more reassurance worth stating plainly: there is no fitness bar to clear before you qualify. Coaches meet people at every starting point, from decades away from exercise to active but plateaued, and the entire design of the hour assumes nothing about where you begin.

The hour itself, minute by minute

Minutes 0 to 10: the conversation. Your coach confirms the real goal, not the polite version, and sketches what the next 90 days look like inside the Reset, Build, Refine structure. You will know your starting phase and the reasoning behind it.

Minutes 10 to 20: the InBody baseline. A quick, fully clothed, stand-on scan records muscle mass, body fat percentage, and metabolic markers. This becomes the before that every future re-test is measured against.

Minutes 20 to 40: the movement assessment. Squat, hinge, push, and pull patterns at little or no load, with no one else in the room watching. The coach is reading mobility, old injuries, and honest starting points, not grading you.

Minutes 40 to 60: real training, properly scaled. A first workout at exactly the intensity your assessment earned: enough to feel what coached work is like, never enough to wreck the following days. You will also learn the room itself, your music, your equipment, your lighting.

What you walk out with

Four concrete things: your baseline numbers, your phase placement, a recommended weekly frequency, and exact program pricing from the coach. Expect some light next-day soreness and a follow-up message checking how you recovered; both are normal. Whether you continue is a decision made with complete information, which is precisely why the consultation and first session cost nothing.

Why the structure matters

A first session built this way answers the worth-it question with evidence rather than sales pressure: you experience the coaching, the measurement, and the private setting before committing a dollar, and the results timeline starts from a real baseline instead of a guess. When you are ready, the calendar opens at 5 AM on weekdays at Carmel City Center.

Related questions

What should I wear and bring?

Comfortable athletic clothes, supportive shoes, and a water bottle cover it. Everything else is in the suite, and our what-to-wear guide settles the details if you are unsure.

Will the first session be brutally hard?

No. A professional first session calibrates rather than punishes, and you should leave feeling worked and capable, not wrecked. Soreness that ruins your week is a red flag, not a badge of honor.

What health questions will they ask?

Expect a Par-Q-style health screen covering injuries, medications that affect exercise, and any physician guidance. Honest answers here are what make the program both safe and effective.
